01 Problem Statement

Why I Built This Tool

Developers constantly need a disposable, zero-friction text buffer to paste code snippets, draft emails, or clean text without creating temporary files. Tempify opens instantly and preserves content across browser sessions without accounts or cloud databases.

Motivation

I was tired of creating random `temp.txt` files on my desktop just to store quick code snippets during development.

02 Implementation Details

Technical Implementation

Interesting Mechanics

Synchronizes textarea mutations directly to `window.localStorage` inside a React `useEffect` binding, enabling zero-latency persistence.

Design Approach: Eliminate all friction between opening the app and typing text—no logins, no title fields, no manual save buttons.

03 Technical Rigor

Engineering Decisions

Decision #01 • Immediate Storage Persistence vs Debounced Saving
Problem:

Debouncing storage writes risked losing the last typed characters if the browser tab closed unexpectedly.

Decision:

Wrote directly to `localStorage` synchronously on every state update, optimized because string buffer payloads are small.

Tradeoff:

Minimal synchronous storage write per keypress.

Outcome:

Zero data loss even on unexpected tab closure or system crash.

04 Execution Obstacles

Challenges & Solutions

Clean Split View Layout on Mobile

Issue: Split-pane editor and markdown preview overflowed on narrow screens.

Decision/Solution: Added a tabbed toggle mode (Edit / Preview) that activates automatically on mobile breakpoints.
